Adarsh & Heleen to teach at KPJAYI Islamorada

posted by eb

According to the latest update on the KPJAYI tour page, the Florida Institute will be hosting daily Mysore classes from March 15- June 15.

Here is a rundown of the schedule:

Sunday – Thursday 7am -9am Mysore
Friday 7am-8:45am Primary Series Led Class
Sunday 9am -10am Beginners class
Note:  Saturdays, New and Full Moon Days are rest days

Pricing of the program ($20/$75/$200) is comparable to the average Ashtanga rates which begs the question:  will an ongoing Mysore program endorsed by KPJAYI be a regular thing in Islamorada?  According to the Drishti Blog, there’s talk of opening another center in Connecticut, but the source has been unvarified.  Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Classes will be taught by California’s Adarsh and Heleen Williams.  From their website:

Adarsh has practiced meditation and yoga since 1995. Although initially not interested in the “physical” aspects of yoga (hoping for accidental enlightenment), he came to embrace the rigorous disciplines of yoga and martial arts. He continues to investigate a variety of traditions both ancient and contemporary. Since 1998, Adarsh has taught yoga, meditation, and bodywork full time.

Since 2001, Adarsh has practiced under the guidance of Pattabhi Jois and his family including Sharath and Saraswati. He is an authorized teacher by Sri K Pattabhi Jois and the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute.

Heleen started practicing yoga in 1992 during college in the Netherlands. For 8 years she practiced Sivananda Yoga and eventually completed the TTC (teacher training course) at the ashram in upstate New York.

Shortly after, Heleen moved to London to pursue life as a yoga teacher which in turn led her to a position of General Manager at one of London’s best known dance and holistic centres. During this time 2000-04, she studied Ashtanga Yoga with Liz Lark and John Scott. John inspired her to go to Mysore and study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. After meeting Guruji on his world tour in 2001 she traveled to India the following year to study at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute.
